Sashiko (刺し子, lit. 'little stabs') is a type of traditional Japanese embroidery or stitching used for functional reinforcement of cloth and clothing. It has a distinctive appearance of white-on-blue embroidery. It is also used as a decorative stitch for garments and in this case, shoe laces.
